We were so excited to be able to enter the Blogger Bash Johnny Rockets milkshake contest.  Really, simply because it was a great excuse to test out and drink milkshakes.  Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that I would have actually won the best milkshake out of some incredible other bloggers with our Berry Banana Cookie Milkshake. Winning the contest meant that Andrew, Skibbles, and I were going to have the amazing experience of a trip to LA.  Up until the moments that I got onto the plane, I still felt like I was going to get another e-mail that said “sorry, we made a mistake”.  Luckily, we got an amazing trip and we are so excited to share some of the awesome memories that we made while there.

1. First plane trip as a family
Maybe this is a silly memory, but we were so excited to have the experience together.  We don’t travel a lot, so who knows when we will be on a plane again together. I was incredibly nervous about how Skibbles would do on the plane, but it was successful (minus one or two meltdowns).  On the way there, Andrew and Skibbles both passed out for most of the trip, but I guess I was too excited with anticipation that I couldn’t sleep much.

2. Eating experience at Johnny Rockets
Admittedly, I’d never eaten at a Johnny Rockets before Blogger Bash. Growing up in WV, the closest location was over an hour away, so until moving to New Jersey, we were never close to one.   I had no idea what I was missing out on until then.  AMAZING shakes….let me say that again, AMAZING milkshakes!!  Incredible bacon cheese fries, and the juiciest burgers.  We had a great time.  To top off the experience, they brought Skibbles out a sundae for her birthday and sang to her, and she even got to met Johnny Rockets!

3.  Being a tourist
We could go to LA and not explore the area.  We traveled all around and did as much as we could in essentially less than 48 hours.  Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Universal City Walk, Universal Studios, Rodeo Drive, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Santa Monica Pier, and Marina del Rey, are just some of the places we managed to squeeze in during such a short time! We had an absolute blast.

Andrew’s favorite thing was seeing all the expensive cars EVERYWHERE.  We literally couldn’t drive 5 minutes without seeing a $100,000+ car.

4.  Pacific Ocean
One thing I told Andrew when we were planning our outings was that we HAD to get to the ocean.  I couldn’t travel for the first time across the country, and not put my feet into the Pacific Ocean.  Weird? Maybe.  O’well.  We went to Santa Monica Pier and were able to do just that.  What was even more incredible was that when we went down to where the guys fish at, there was a seal just hanging out in the ocean!  It was unbelievable!

5.  Incredible scenery
I had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA that California offered such stunning views everywhere you go.  The mountains are almost always in the background.  It was, for me, the best of both worlds.  I love the city life, but I always miss the mountain backdrop of growing up in West Virginia.  It was such a breathtaking time for me.

6.  Amazing Food
The food.  Man, oh man, the food! Of course, Johnny Rockets was awesome, but the food didn’t stop there.  Gourmet candy apples like I’ve never seen before, delicious Mexican food, and endless opportunities for real, wholesome, organic foods.  We found some real gems to experience including Crunchy French Toast from Blu Jam Cafe!

7.  Universal Studios
Johnny Rockets graciously provided us with tickets to Universal Studios LA.  It was so fun and we even got to see part of a taping of Extra! TV. Skibbles couldn’t do much at Universal because of her age, but she still have a great time in Fun Land and meeting all the characters was a huge hit.  Minons, Gru, and the girls from Despicable Me were the favorites, but the Donkey from Shrek was absolutely hysterical.  I haven’t laughed so hard.

8.  Celebrating 2 years old
The best memory was celebrating Skibbles 2nd Birthday while we were there.  We started out with a huge, celebratory breakfast and then spent the morning at Marina del Rey, watching the wakeboarders and boats, and playing in the sand until it was time to leave to get back on our plane.  She had so much fun at the playground on the sand and it made me wish we had one!

A HUGE thank you to Johnny Rockets for an amazing time with our family and the memories that we were able to create while we were there.  We can’t wait to eat at Johnny Rockets again and definitely can’t wait to take another family trip together soon!

Don’t forget to check out our amazingly delicious Berry Banana Cookie Milkshake that won us the trip!
