Homemade Banana Avocado Popsicles Recipe

July 2, 2013 by Larisha Campbell 15 Comments

We do baby-led weaning (to see our post on this go here) with Baby Skibbles which means that she pretty much eats whatever we are having.  However, since she started teething I have been trying to give her more frozen options so the coldness helps with her pain.  It’s virtually impossible to try to find a “healthy popsicle” on the market, so after talking with a close friend I decided to just make my own.  I have no idea why I had never thought or done this before, even for us.  It’s incredibly simple to do!
I decided to make Banana Avocado popsicles because it’s just an all around good source of food for the baby and before you look at the bowl below and think, “EWW, Gross!”, just bare with me.  Remember that babies really don’t know what “should” and “should not” go together when it comes to food.  They have a pretty open mind, so they will eat sweet potatoes for breakfast and eggs and hamburger for dinner and not think twice. However, this combination really isn’t that bad.  Avocados don’t have a really strong flavor and the banana just make it sweet, so it’s a great combination.

RECIPE:
1 Ripe Avocado
1 Ripe Banana
1 cup Plain Grass-Fed Yogurt (or Organic)

Directions- Cut avocado and banana into chunks (no particular size, just want to make it easier to mash). Roughly mash them together.  Add the yogurt and continue to mash everything together until most chunks are gone.  *Depending on the size popsicle containers you are using, you can just add more yogurt if you need a bit more.
Place instead popsicle holders and place in freezer until set. Serve!

I put them all in my Tupperware popsicle holders and let them freeze up.  If you don’t have popsicle holders you can buy small plastic cups and popsicle sticks.

Baby Skibbles wasn’t sure at first, but in the end wound up loving these popsicles. They are incredibly easy to make, healthy, and help with teething which is always a plus in my book!  Hope you enjoy!

**Have you made popsicles before?  Leave a comment letting me know what flavor combination I should try to make next!

I wonder if I'd like these as well as my LO! I'm assuming regular plain yogurt would also work??

These look like a good way to get little ones to eat food that is good for them! Thanks for the tip. Anything frozen is more fun to eat!

These look interesting. I have tried to make my little one smoothie-type Popsicle but she doesn't seem to get how to eat it, maybe it just takes practice.

I have made homemade popsicles before, my daughter prefers all fruit ones. (Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, bananas…) I never thought to add avocado! That would be such a great idea! Thanks for sharing!<br />

We just bought our first popsicle molds! We have a book on making popsicles but all the recipes call for a ton of sugar. THIS was much more what I was thinking…fresh fruit and veggies, no added junk! Great way to get those healthy fats into baby too by adding avocado.
