Please Touch Museum – Olivia the Pig Story Time Meet & Greet

*Disclosure: We received the admission for free in exchange for this post.  Thoughts and opinions 100% our own.
We were recently invited to attend the Olivia the Pig StoryTime Meet & Greet at the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, PA.  We had been to the Please Touch Museum once before on our own accord when Skibbles was much younger, but not since she was as mobile as she is now.  We were so excited to have the opportunity to go back again.

We got there are loved having an awesome place to take our picture outside.  I’m big on wanting to capture memories of where we take Skibbles so she can look back on it when she’s older and know. We got our tickets and walked inside the museum.   Memorial Hall is absolutely stunning.  It was originally designed as an art museum and the architectural structure of the building is incredible.

About Please Touch MuseumSince 1976, Please Touch Museum has been the Children’s Museum of Philadelphia. Our museum was the first in the nation whose target audience was families with children seven and younger. We have grown into one of the best children’s museums in the nation, have become experts in play and have had our programs for under served families in the region nationally recognized. Our mission to enrich the lives of children by creating learning opportunities through play, enables us to lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning and cultural awareness.

We started on the first floor.  You could easily spend an entire day just on the first floor.  The museum itself is HUGE.  Exhibits on this floor include:
  • Flight Fantasy
  • Roadside Attractions
  • River Attractions
  • Liberty Arm and Torch
  • Art Program Room
I absolutely love how everything in set up in stages and can completely be used as a homeschooling tool for parents wanting to teach about certain things.  Skibbles had a blast in the automative area where she was able to really get under the hood and test drive a car herself.  The space and science areas were a big hit too and in another year or two, I can see us spending a lot of time in there.
The River Attractions were by far, the favorite part of the entire morning.  Skibbles is obsessed with water and I actually had to pull her away from this after a long time so we could go see other things.  She kept wanting to go back, too.  Every child gets a blue waterproof vest so their clothes don’t get wet and there’s dryers in the areas for their hands afterwards.
Even though she wasn’t sure about it at first, she ended up loving the giant piano.  She looks so cute on it.
We were also able to ride the carousel. It’s an absolutely gorgeous carousel that was originally crafted in 1908! This is an additional charge from your tickets, but so worth the fun.  She was all smiles the entire time we were riding.
The Second Floor boasts:
  • Playhouse Theater
  • Wonderland
  • Centennial Exploration
  • City Capers
As you walk down into the second floor, you are taken into a transformation of Alice in Wonderland, complete with a spinning wheel that makes Alice look like she’s falling down.  Skibbles must have spent a good 3 minutes in a trance watching it.  I don’t know how she didn’t get dizzy!

There’s a play picnic area, play shoe store, play restaurant, play doctor’s office, and play grocery store set up on the lower level as well.

The play grocery store is absolutely adorable.  Kids are able to using shopping carts that are their size, shop the entire store, and then check out at registers that other kids can scan all their items through.  Afterwards, there’s a “home” set up where they can put all their groceries away.

Lastly, Skibbles has no real idea what the “Collections” are inside the Please Touch Museum, however, I’m mesmerized by every single one.  Inside these showcases, are collections of previous “hot toys” over the past few decades.  It was like reliving my childhood in little showcases all throughout the museum.  It was awesome.

We were originally there for story time with Olivia the Pig.  Please Touch Museum has a ton of activities and events going on that you can take advantage of when attending the museum.  After story time, children were allowed a meet and greet with Olivia.  Skibbles loved her and was so sad when we had to leave.  Our friends from Can’t Google Everything tried to let us hop back in a picture so she was happy again, but she was just upset at this point.  Luckily, there was so much fun to distract her!

Lastly, we check out the Please Touch Museum’s Lunch cafe. They had some many great options, from already prepared sandwiches, salads, and wraps, to customized pizzas, sandwiches, and pastas.  And the food was delicious and comparable in price to many other places.

We HIGHLY recommend Please Touch Museum as one of our top places to visit with kids in the Philadelphia area. Under one is free, and anyone else 1 and over, requires a ticket, priced at $17/person. Basic Family Membership is $150 for a family of four (pays for itself in just over two visits).
