2014 Kia Soul Review

August 7, 2014 by Larisha Campbell 3 Comments

Disclosure:  Thanks to Kia and Drive STI we were given the chance to drive the Kia Soul+ free of cost.  No compensation was received.  Opinions and thoughts are 100% our own.

I’m sure I’m not alone when every time that I see a Kia Soul, I think of singing hamsters.  Please, tell me I’m not alone?  It seemed like a cool car, but was it a family car?  Andrew works around cars everyday and he told me that I would really enjoy it, so I was optimistic.

It arrived in our driveway and I was so excited.  It was awesome and I was completely in love with the Solar Yellow color.  Then Andrew reminded me that I was about to drive it to New York City.  Luckily, no one thought I was a taxi and tried to hop in and get a ride.  Could you imagine!?

We are actually in the market for a new car as it’s only a matter of time before mine goes to car heaven, and the Soul isn’t something I had even considered.  It’s on my radar now because of all the amazing features that it offers. I had never considered this to be a family vehicle, but I think if you are planning to have 2 or less children, it would make an amazing vehicle.  The entire back seat folds down if you need storage and the leg room in the back seat is more than ample.  While the trunk space wasn’t exactly huge, I do love that there is a shelf  that can stay or be removed, as well as extra trunk storage underneath the trunk floor.  Those little bits of extra storage make all the difference.

Some of Kia Soul’s amazing standard features we love:

  • Remote Keyless Entry(as long as key is on you it will unlock/lock)
  • 17″ Alloy Wheels
  • Active Eco System
  • Power heated outside mirrors
  • Dual Front Advanced Airbags, Front Seat-Mounted Side Airbags, AND Full-Length Side Curtain Airbags
Some of the Amazing features of the Kia Soul+ primo package like the one we tested include:
  • Navigation w/ 8″ Screen
  • Speaker Lights
  • Panoramic Sunroof w/Power Sunshade
  • Push Button Start w/Smart Key
  • Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
  • Heated Steering Wheel

And so much more!

The sunroof is by far one of our favorite features.  It essentially takes up the entire roof of the car.  It’s absolutely incredible and Skibbles absolutely loved it.  Because we extended rear face her carseat, she typically only sees out my back window, so she really enjoyed this.

Speaking of extended rear facing.  There’s top tethers on all three seats, making rear facing even easier.  Her car seat also had plenty of room to be like this and still give the person in the front seat plenty of leg room, unlike how it is in my current vehicle.

Skibbles thought she was going to get a chance, we skipped that part.  She loved sitting inside of it though!

I saved the best fun feature for last.  The speakers on the driver and front passenger side doors actually have LED lights on the outside of the speakers.  You have the option to let them play to the beat of the music or just to turn on their own, like in the video below!  Check it out!

What it will cost you-

MSRP for Kia Soul+ is: $18,200
Additional Features & Handling: $5,810
Total Suggested MSRP: $24,010

With the Active Eco System, the Kia Soul gets an amazing 26 Average MPG, with 23 City MPG and 31 Highway MPG.

We absolutely enjoyed driving the Kia Soul+ for a week and definitely will keep this one on our radar when we are ready to buy a new car! It’s completely a great car and not just for those hip hamsters!

What do you think?

This little vehicle does have alot of good features. I like what you have shared and I like the looks of it. I would probably choose a different color though
