Grilled Orange Cinnamon French Toast + Time for Mom Link Up

August 5, 2014 by Larisha Campbell 1 Comment

We have french toast at least every other week.  It’s one of Andrew’s most favorite things in the entire world to have and I love it too.  Plus, it’s easy!  Super easy! I recently had written out my meal plan list for the week and when the night came (yes, night! We love breakfast for dinner) to have french toast, I was thinking that I hated that I had to cook inside.  It had been so hot and I knew it was just going to be horrible cooking inside.  But then it hit me…why did I have too?  Why not grill it?  So, it happened…

Let me let you in on a little secret if you don’t know already…Challah bread makes the absolutely BEST french toast ever. EVER. You can find it at a local bakery and some traditional grocery stores will carry it as well.  I love using an actual loaf because you can cut them as thick or thin as you want too.

Doesn’t it simply look amazing!?  I can’t believe that I never had thought to do it before.  The inside of the toast stays warm and soft while the crust gets a slight crunchy to it!  Yum!  This would be perfect for a summer brunch with mimosas sitting outside on the deck enjoying time with friends!

Confession:  A little bit of drool may have came out while I was writing this post.

Ingredients:
1 loaf of challah bread
5 eggs (organic preferred)
2/3 cup milk
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon + extra
1/4 tsp nutmeg
juice from half an orange
olive oil (to grease grill)
1/4 tsp confectioners sugar (per plate)
Homemade Whipped Topping

Directions:
Slice challah bread. In a flat container, whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange juice.  Grease grill with olive oil and then heat on medium high.  Dip each slice of bread in the egg mixture for a few seconds on each side, let excess mixture drip off, and then lay on grill. Sprinkle a little extra cinnamon on each piece. Grill for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove from grill and serve immediately.  Sprinkle with 1/4 tsp confectioners sugar per plate. Top with whipped topping and syrup.

Try out our blueberry maple syrup for a little flavor!

We hope you enjoy!
