Homemade DIY Ceramic Oil & Vinegar Gift Set

‘Tis the season for gift giving and whether you are on a budget, desire to give homemade gifts, or just want to be unique, you may be looking for different and fun alternatives to gifts you just pick up in the store….or in my case, at Amazon. I, myself, am not the best when it comes to this because I always tend to wait until the last minute for everything and then I feel completely rushed. Luckily, while shopping at Home Goods recently, I had an “AH HA” moment for a great DIY gift idea.

I have seen a bazillion different DIY Sharpie Mug ideas for various gifts and while I think they are adorable, I wanted something different.  While I was browsing the clearance aisles in Home Goods, I came across these awesome white ceramic oil and vinegar bottles.  They were the perfect canvas for my next project.  Now while, this would make a great gift it was actually for me. Hey, we need gifts for ourselves right?  My best friend did comment that she would love this as a gift though, so I’m keeping it in the back of my mind for a future gift for her.

I wanted something that matched our custom decal in our kitchen that we recently put up.  While you could do this with stencils, I decided to do it freehand.

Within 10 minutes I had both bottles drawn on and ready to bake.  The key to sharpie projects is:
  • Let the Sharpie dry for 12-24 hours before baking
  • Place in a cool oven before turning the oven on
  • Turn the oven on to 450 degrees F and let bake for 45 minutes.
  • Turn oven off, DO NOT OPEN, and let cool down for approximately 2 hours
Remove the bottles and let cool completely. Then they are ready to gift.  I wash by hand, but a dishwasher should also be safe as long as the directions were followed.
This simple and quick gift project cost me just $6!  It’s inexpensive and one-of-a-kind that sure to be a big hit!  Check out your local stores for sales on solid colored ceramic pieces and have fun designing for a friend (or yourself!).
Have you tried a ceramic Sharpie project before?  What have you done?

I love these! I don't have a Home Goods anywhere near me, and anytime I am near one, we can't stop for some reasons.
