Two days ago, I wrote a post about a Sears security officer that had been posting pictures from surveillance video of two mothers breastfeeding their babies.
Since that post, Sears has repeatedly commented on Twitter and Facebook messages to those respective pages that “Sears respects the privacy of all shoppers. We regret this isolated incident. We have investigated this incident and terminated the associate who was involved.” Hundreds and hundreds of people have gone to write to Sears and they continue to offer the same generic response to every single poster.
Yesterday, I wrote a specific post to them, asking when they were going to make a public apology and what they were going to do to address this matter from happening again. Again, I received the same generic response as above with a few words like “reiterate” thrown in there.

Sears Security Officers Posts Photos of Breastfeeding Mothers Without Consent
In my opinion, this is unacceptable. Sears Holdings Company represents many brands and has over 1,300 stores in the United States and Canada. We cannot stand for any company, let alone a company this large, trying to shy away from the public without answers to a situation as serious as this.
While many breastfeeding mothers are pushing for more acceptance towards Nursing in Public, that does not give a security personnel the right to invade the privacy of these mothers using store equipment. These mothers did not give their consent for their images to be used. And while many mothers may be pushing for acceptance to Nursing in Public, we don’t know if these particular mothers do.
I was sincerely hoping that Sears would make a public announcement this morning, but it appears that their PR/Social Media Team is back in the office and nothing has changed. The most recent post to their page about this incident received this response:
Numerous people, have asked them to publish what their “long-standing policy” is and that goes unanswered.
Based on Sears lack of concern to address this matter and address how they will handle these situations going forward in regards to training their employees, I am moving that you boycott Sears, and all affiliated companies until a public apology and address is made regarding this matter.
