Getting ready for Swimming with Kids

teaching kids to swim

If you ask my mom, she’ll tell you that growing up I was a complete water baby. I remember summers at my aunt’s house who had an in-ground pool and my parents having to drag me out of the water to not only leave, but even just to eat.  I would spend hours and hours in that pool swimming from one end to the next. My favorite thing to do was jumping off the diving board and seeing if I could make it to the other end under the water the whole time without coming up. Nine times out of ten I could do it. Eventually at our own home, my parents got an above ground pool.  It was even better because I could just walk out back and go in the pool. While, I had no fears ever (my sister had to save me once when I was super little after jumping in the deep end), I’m sure that my mom had a ton always and I was just drawn to the water.

Naturally, my girls loves the water too.  It makes me so happy knowing that I will be able to share this love with them together. We have a pool in our development that we can access, as well as a friend’s pool, and the best fun is only living 40 minutes from the shore. But that doesn’t come without fears.

This will be the first summer with two kids and since Andrew works crazy hours, most of the time, I will probably be solo taking them to our neighborhood pool. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit nervous about swimming with kids alone.  Skibbles, our toddler, has zero fears about anything.  Her wild, carefree spirit is contagious and is already rubbing off on her sister. Put these two against me near water and I already want to hide. But I digress.

learning to swim

I know that I can have an amazing summer of water fun with my girls, even if that means them and I solely with the SwimWays Swim Steps 3 Level Program!

  1. Introduce them to Water!  This teaches them about being comfortable in the water and how to stay balanced. We practice this in the bath tub or shower frequently.

2. Water Exploration – Start small with something like a water table in the few weeks leading up to swim season. This helps your kids get the freedom to develop confidence to play.

3. Swim Training – With the Power Swimr™ swim training system, it’s like having training wheels in the water for your kids.  They can feel so empowered!

Learn more about the three steps and watch the videos to show you how to be confident here.

getting beach ready I can’t wait to get the SwimWays Baby Spring Float for the baby so I can get a little assistance too. With over 40 years of experience, I know I can trust the SwimWays brand.  It’s easy to pack and store, so traveling to friend’s houses and down to the shore for a staycation will be a complete breeze.

Now I don’t have to worry about us being stuck on the beach only building sand castles this summer, I have the confidence to get both girls in the water and have a blast together!
