Vanilla Pineapple Banana Green Smoothie + Time for Mom

July 1, 2014 by Larisha Campbell 1 Comment

Every mom that I talk to would ideally like to loose a bit of weight.  Even if it’s just a few pounds, and typically it’s in the dreaded “mom pouch”.  While, a lot of people may talk about positive self-image and loving your body, the fact is that most women would be happier loosing a few pounds.  But that’s not what this is really about.

Did you know that waking up and NOT eating breakfast could actually make weight loss more difficult?  I’ve heard of people doing this thinking skipping a meal is a good idea, but if you do “skip” a meal, breakfast shouldn’t be it.   Not only does eating breakfast jump start your brain, it also jump starts your metabolism back up helping your body work to burn off calories.
A great option is a smoothie.  It’s quick, easy, and you control the ingredients.  Kids love smoothies too, so you could even split it or double it to share for breakfast!

The most important thing to consider is that when adding a green like a pear, it’s sweet.  When you add leafy greens like spinach or kale, you can get a bitter taste and that has to be balanced with at least double the amount in sweets to taste yummy. An avocado, doesn’t really have a taste, but makes something creamier than normal.  I actually love the creaminess of an avocado in a smoothie.
Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon ground flax seed
2 scoops Vanilla Protein Powder (ideally a soy-free, non-gmo powder)
2 Tablespoons fresh squeezed orange juice
1 avocado
1 cup fresh cut pineapple
1 banana
1 cup ice
Directions:
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.  *Spinach may take a little longer to blend depending on your blender, so make sure it’s completely blended.  **Double the recipe and put into mason jars in the fridge – shake before consuming. Consume within 12 hours.
