What are Dessert Truffles?
Traditionally, a dessert truffle is actually a chocolate truffle. It’s originally made with a chocolate ganache center and then it’s coasted in more chocolate or cocoa powder, sometimes even nuts. Yes, you read that right — chocolate on chocolate on chocolate. Sounds heavenly, right? I think so too.
Usually, that are circular in shape. Not to be confused with truffles that are actually edible fungi and very expensive.
While traditionally they are dark or milk chocolate, many people have gone on to create dessert truffles that are made from white chocolate, have caramel or liqueur centers, and more. The possibilities are truly endless.
Are truffles just cake balls?
No. While they are both circular in shape and sometimes coating in a chocolate coating, the inside of truffles are not made from a balled up cake center. They are both delicious treats, but they are not the same thing.
How do you store chocolate truffles?
Unless noted, chocolate truffles and other dessert flavored truffles are usually stored in an air tight container and not refrigerated. Putting in an air tight container is important because chocolate can take on smells of things around it and you don’t want your sweet treats tasting like tonight’s taco dinner!
How long do chocolate truffles last?
Well, that completely depends on the type of person you are! Truffles are usually good for 1 to 2 weeks if store properly. However, that’s only if they can actually last that long in your house!
