My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear Review & Giveaway

About the company:

My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear was started after a mom and Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer realized that she could provide mothers with the memory of a lifetime– her baby’s heartbeat.  She started by offering them to her clients and quickly realized that she had a special item.

These kits are the perfect for baby shower gifts for any new mom or dad to be.  They also make the perfect presents for grandparents-to-be.  Even if you have to replace the batteries in the kit, your recording never goes away. With over 17 different options, you are sure to find the perfect plush kit for anyone. Some options are shown below.

I was so excited to be able to review My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear.  The best part of every single doctor’s visit is being able to hear my baby’s heartbeat.  As much as I love feeling her move around, that sound is one of the most reassuring sounds I’ve ever heard in my life.  I was sent a frog kit to review and was so surprised at how fast it arrived.  Once it arrived, I pulled it out of the bag and figured out how everything worked.  I was so pleased with how soft it felt and how well it is put together.

My Baby's Heartbeat Bear Frog Kit, pictures of inside and outside
I took the kit with my to my 36 week appointment (I was supposed to take it to my 34 week appointment, but I completely forgot to take it with me–prego brain). It was super easy to use and record.  On one side of the heart there’s the sound mechanism (mic) and also a small circle at the bottom that lights up red while recording, so you know it’s working. On the back side of the heart is the battery component and a switch.  When recording you flip it to R (for record) and then when you are done you flip it to P (for play).  It’s recommended you put a piece of tape on it so no one can switch it. Then just place it in the back and seal up the velcro!

The instructions provided with the kit were well beyond explanatory. I never once had a question about how to use it.  The only complaint I would have is that the mic has to be right up against/near what you are trying to record.  We experimented a few times before taking to the doctors office and even a foot away sounds somewhat muffled. Once we got to the doctors office, we had to try to record a few different times before you could really hear the heartbeat because it was picking up a lot of static.  But if you play around with it, you will get the perfect recording.

Overall, we are absolutely thrilled with our Frog Kit.  It will be a great thing to have forever and I can’t wait to until the baby gets old enough to be able to listen to it herself 🙂

If you have already had a baby, but love the way these plush kits look don’t worry.  These makes AWESOME presents for birthday or holidays for anyone.  If you are a parent that travels a lot, it would be awesome to record a message, so your little one can hear your voice every night.  It also makes for a great gift for family where you can have your little one record them a message before sending it. The possibilities are endless!

Buy It: You can purchase any of the kits for just $35 or any of their other products (outfits, holiday gifts, hats and more) on their website or at Amazon.com.

36 week Pregnancy update

October 19, 2012 by Larisha Campbell 6 Comments

36 week Pregnancy update

Today we are officially 36 weeks pregnant!!  So exciting! We had an appointment this week and are officially to the point where we will see the doctor every week until this little one decides to arrive! Since our last appointment 2 weeks ago I have gained 2lbs, so we are officially at 31 lbs total. So we are still on track to stay under our goal!  We also had our Group B Strep (GBS) test this week and will find out the results from that test next week.  Essentially, if I am positive, I will need to have antibiotics to make sure I don’t pass it on to our little one during delivery, but we’ll cross that road then.

side and front view at 36 weeks pregnant

In my post from last week, I hadn’t been really nesting. However, this past week I have been in overtime.  I don’t remember the last time my house was this clean.

Earlier this week I scrubbed the bathroom floor three times, yes THREE, because until then I didn’t feel like it was clean enough.  I also had the urge to scrub the walls in the bathroom and the kitchen too.

I am also getting everything together.  All of her clothes are officially washed and put away and her hospital bag is completely packed.  I have Andrew and mine’s bag halfway done.

I also feel like I’m reverting back to my 1st trimester.  I am constantly sleepy and have to pee every 5 seconds again.  I have also been having a lot more contractions.  They are turning recently (past 4-5 days) from just the tightening to the crampy/menstrual feeling too.  I’m glad things are moving along and progressing, but still hoping she stays in there a little longer.

On a happy note!  I also became an auntie again!  My sister had a new baby girl on Tuesday, making me an auntie to three beautiful little nieces!!

Until next week……

Hospital Bassinet Sign for Breastfed Baby

October 17, 2012 by Larisha Campbell 7 Comments

I have been *slowly* packing our bags for the hospital.  I saw this idea somewhere on the internet early in my pregnancy, but then couldn’t find it again, so I decided last night to make our own.
While I do not plan for my baby to ever leave my room while we are at the hospital, let’s face it…not everything always goes as expected and if there are complications with either the baby or myself, there may be a period of time when the baby is away.  Because of that, I wanted a sign to go on our babies bassinet that clearly stated our desires that our baby will be exclusively breastfed.

Remembering Pregnancy & Infant Loss

October 15, 2012 by Larisha Campbell 3 Comments

I didn’t know until this year, that October 15th, is National Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance. While I personally have never lost a child, I wanted to take the time out on my blog to recognize all the mommies and daddies out there that have.  Nothing I can say will can heal the wounds, but I send out my condolences to each and every one of you.
Being currently 35 weeks pregnant, this touches me in a way that I can only
imagine what each of you have gone through.
I also encourage anyone wanting more information about this day to check out this website.

35 week Pregnancy Update

October 12, 2012 by Larisha Campbell 2 Comments

35 week pregnancy update!

So after last week’s post I promised that I would start weekly updates until the end of my pregnancy so here it goes!

We didn’t have an appointment this week but starting next week we will have one every week until Lil’ Miss decides she is ready to be out in the world! It’s very overwhelming to think that within the next few weeks we will be holding her in our arms. I don’t actually have a scale in our home (I refuse to worry about my weight–pregnant or not), so I can’t update you on my weight gain until next week’s appt.

35 weeks.

It has started to get cold here, so sweatshirts and pants are now making up a majority of my wardrobe.  With that also comes actually having to put on sneakers, which is somewhat hilarious. I can still reach my feet to put my shoes on, but I always just feel like I’m squishing her! It’s definitely not as comfortable as pre-pregnancy.

Andrew said the sweetest thing to me yesterday.  He knows I’ve been having some back pain throughout my pregnancy and recently the pelvic pains have started, so he offered to carry my belly for me.  While we all know it’s impossible, just the fact that he offered, was so sweet to me.

On a positive note, my ribs are starting to hurt a lot less. I am attributing this to the fact she is slowly dropping lower into my pelvic region, because I am starting to feel her more down there instead and let’s just say that’s an interesting feeling.

I still haven’t hit that full on “nesting” phase that everyone describes to me, so that gives me hope that I still have a little bit of time!  We shall see!!

Until next week…

Top 10 MUST Have Baby Items

October 9, 2012 by Larisha Campbell 7 Comments

*Disclosure: Affiliate links contained in this post.  You purchase like you would normally, but we receive a small commission.

I remember early in my pregnancy, I absolutely wanted to go set up my registry literally weeks after I found out I was prego.  I just thought it was so exciting.  So we (yes, I dragged Andrew [actually willingly] along) went to Target, registered, and got the scanner to go start adding things.  We got to the baby section …and there you stand… faced with literally thousands of choices.  I looked at him and said how are we supposed to know what to pick!?  Andrew having never been around kids before looked back at me, like, “Seriously, you’re asking me!? You must be crazy.”  So there we stood. Finally, we walked up and down the aisle before making what we thought the best choices were.  With only 6 weeks left to go, I realized this is a problem that many couples face and decided to put together a list of the Top 10 Must Have Baby Items for any new, expecting parents.  This is just a list based on our opinions and your list may differ from ours!

  1. Diapers
  2. Car Seat
  3. Crib/Bassinet –somewhere for the baby to sleep
  4. Clothes– Onesies, Swaddles, and Bodysuits are easiest for newborns
  5. Baby Grooming Kit (nail clippers, nasal aspirator, thermometer, brush, medicine dispenser)
  6. Baby Tub/Non-Toxic Bathing Products
  7. Blankets
  8. Stroller/Babywearing Carrier
  9. Mommy supplies– don’t forget yourself!  Nipple cream, breast pads, postpartum spray, nursing bras/tanks
  10. Camera

Personally, my other things that you might want to consider having are:

  • Breast Pump/Bottles/Formula (we are breastfeeding, so formula may obviously be on your Top 10 list if you are not)
  • Changing Table
  • Glider/Rocking Chair
  • Monitor
  • Swing
  • Boppy pillow

What do you think of our list?  What did we forget? What’s on our list that was an absolute lifesaver for you?
Update:  While we still agree with many of these items, we never expected to be a co-sleeping family.  We never used a crib with Skibbles except for storage! (WHOOPS!)

34 week Pregnancy Update

October 7, 2012 by Larisha Campbell 10 Comments

34 Week Pregnancy Update

I can’t believe only 6 weeks left.  It’s seem so crazy to think it’s going so fast! Throughout the pregnancy I’ve only updated once or twice a month, but I am going to try to do every week from here on out!
This past Thursday, I had my 34 week appointment and everything so far is going perfect.  Our little girl’s heartbeat is very strong. I had only gained 1lb since my last visit 2 weeks ago.  This makes me happy because if you remember from my last post, I had gained 1lb more than I wanted, so I’m right back to my goal!  Total right now is 29lbs!  Since the baby is gaining approximately 1/2 a pound a week now, I should be gaining about a pound a week!

I took this pic this morning and when I saw it I was like WOW!  I always feel smaller than what I look like in pictures! I have been having some Braxton  Hicks contractions for about a week and a half now.  They aren’t painful at all yet and some only last 10 seconds, while others have been up to 2 minutes.  On Friday, I freaked because I was having a bunch, but I drank a bunch of water, laid down, and they would go away.  Every time I got back up, they would start again, so I rested a lot that day.  If I walk a lot, I have them more, so I have tried to not go to the store for very long or do anything else that will bring them on more often.  I need a few more weeks to prepare!!

Other symptoms I’m having:  I have been nauseous a few times in the past week and also having some cramping later at night too.  All completely normal and my body just getting ready. I have also been nesting a lot more.  All of our cloth diapers are prepped and cloths are washed up.

I’m working on some more projects, that I will keep you updated on soon 🙂

Thanks again for reading and following our journey through our first pregnancy 🙂

Fruit Smoothie Recipe -Great for Pregnancy, Breastfeeding, and Beyond

October 5, 2012 by Larisha Campbell 8 Comments

One thing has been very clear during my pregnancy.  Morning times are sometimes the hardest for eating purposes. I always eat breakfast, I know the importance of it; however, many times throughout my pregnancy, the thought of certain food (eggs) make me cringe.  One thing that I have always enjoyed though is making fruit smoothies. It fills me up, is amazingly healthy, and gives the baby so many great nutrients.  This fruit smoothie recipe is amazing, packed full of flavor, and nutrients making it perfect for pregnancy.

Recipe:
1 medium banana
1 orange
5 strawberries
1 Chobani Greek Yogurt (I used peach flavored for this)
1/2 cup Silk Fruit & Protein juice (I used strawberry banana flavor)
5 pieces of ice

Directions:
Throw everything into a blender. Blend on high until well mixed. Add more ice or juice as necessary to reach desired consistency (ice will make thicker, juice with make thinner).

Tips:
**One great thing about smoothies is that you can change them to taste like whatever you want.  Change the yogurt flavor, add different fruits, use OJ instead of the Silk juice.  It’s really up to you!  Enjoy!
**If you are breastfeeding and have eliminated dairy due to allergies, the silk fruit juice is dairy free!  Just remove the yogurt, and add some more fruit!

33 weeks Pregnancy update

September 30, 2012 by Larisha Campbell 1 Comment

33 Weeks Pregnancy Update!

While time keeps ticking, I keep thinking I don’t have much time left, but I have not gotten any nesting instincts yet.  Hopefully they decide to kick in soon because I have so much left to do!  Luckily, Andrew felt inclined to help and surprisingly I walked in one day to him putting together the stroller and carseat travel system.  Thankfully that is done and ready to go! We also did finally decide on some bedding that we both liked, so we bought that and her crib is ready for her.

The last time I posted (at 31 weeks) I knew I had gained 23lbs, as of my 27 week appt. At my 31 week appt I had gained 28lbs, which means I had gained 1lb more than I wanted to (trying to stay at 1lb a week).  So right now I am predicted to gain 36lbs instead of my goal of 35lbs.  No biggie.

33weeks

While (knock on wood) I still do not have any stretch marks (yet) on my belly, I am amazed at how dark my veins look. Every time I walk past a mirror I always swear I have a stretch mark because my veins look so deep.

My ribs have progressively gotten worse.  It’s so sore now that it hurts to have clothes touching the right side of my ribs.  She really loves that spot.  I can constantly feel her moving if I put my hand there. I’m hoping that as I progress and my she drops that I will get some relief before my labor.  Only time will tell. I try my best to have a positive mind set and constantly tell myself that soon I won’t be in pain anymore and instead have a healthy and happy baby girl in my arms. The longer she stays inside, the healthier she will be on the outside! Sometimes though I find myself saying screw that, it just hurts to bad (usually this is when Andrew is around and I have a shoulder to cry on).

Lastly, it is definitely getting harder to sleep.  I am back to feeling like the beginning of the first trimester where I was up 2-3 times a night.  Sometimes its because I have to pee, but mostly it’s my body trying to roll over and it’s just not as easy anymore.  The pelvic pain is crazy sometimes.

Thanks for reading 🙂

31 Week Pregnancy Update & Daddy Painted Toes

September 14, 2012 by Larisha Campbell 4 Comments

31 Week Pregnancy Update!

We are officially in the single digits today and have 9 weeks left before our estimated due date!  EEEKKK!! Andrew said earlier that he’s just ready to see her already.  He wants to know what she looks like.  Then maybe we can put her back in my belly for a few more weeks.  I said unfortunately it doesn’t work like that!

31 weeks

At my last appointment (3 weeks ago) I had gained 23lbs total, which is still completely within my doctor’s goal of under 35lbs. So I’m super excited about that.

My back pain has semi gotten better; however, for the past 2 weeks or so, I have been dealing with inflamed ribs.  I had to get blood work done to make sure there were no issues with my liver or gallbladder and luckily there are not, so for now I’m just trying to surviving the inflammation.

We had our hospital tour last week and are very excited about their encouragement of rooming in, availability of lactation consults, and the fact they are considered a Level III NICU unit just in case something would happen.

Now on to the more exciting funnier news…

I officially cannot reach my toes to paint them. Granted I can still put my socks and shoes on no problems, I know it would take me hours if I tried to do it, so I asked Andrew if he would help.  He graciously painstakingly accepted the challenge.

I must say, it was hilarious.  He started by removing the old polish and then started putting on the new bright pink color.  On numerous occasions, I kept hearing UH OH. At one point, I knew it had to bad at one point when he said, “so, what do I do if I make some mistakes.”

As you can see, it’s honestly not that bad, but there is quite a bit along the edges.

I was surprised he truly wanted to make them look better and went to get a q-tip to fix it!

While the end result is by no means, salon pedicure quality, I think he did an amazing job and I’m truly blessed to have a fiance who is willing to help me!! 🙂

Did you significant ever paint your toes?
Or what was the nicest thing ever done for you while prego?
