Baby’s Got Gear: Diono Radian RXT Review & UltraMat Giveaway

September 24, 2013 by Larisha Campbell 23 Comments

There’s no better piece of Baby Gear more important (in my opinion) than a car seat and we are excited to be bringing you this review from Diono today.

About the company: Diono consistently earns high ratings from industry experts and families around the world for all of their products.  They are committed to providing car seat safety to families everywhere with innovative and advanced travel solutions. Their first product was in 1999 called the Mighty-Tite, the first and only seatbelt tightener.  In 2005, they introduced the Radian Car Seat, the first steel-reinforced folding car seat that makes travel and storage more convenient than ever. In 2008, they were one of Inc 500’s fastest growing U.S. companies and today they have more than 100 product offerings across 54 countries, with offices in seven.

When I had Baby Skibbles, her safety was my top priority.  We had what I considered a great infant car seat, but as Baby Skibbles is growing bigger, we knew that we would need a convertible car seat soon.  I, at that time, had no idea about Diono or that there were options for me to only purchase one car seat from birth to the end of booster years. With minimal research done, I quickly learned that Diono was the highly sought after car seat for (most) parents.  Mention Energy absorbing foam, 5 point harness, LATCH installation, rear facing tether, side impact protection, and award winning car seat to any mom and you are guaranteed to spark her attention.

We were beyond excited when this box carrying our Diono Radian RXT arrived at our door.  Never again would we need to get another car seat for Baby Skibbles!  We quickly rushed it inside (okay, so maybe slowly–this thing is massive weighing in at 24 lbs! Don’t let the slender box fool you). The reason we wanted this car seat above all others were not only for it’s superior safety rating, but for it’s ability to rear face for an extended time and be essentially an all-in-one car seat.

The Basic Specs:
Maximum child weights:
Rear-facing 45 lbs (20.5 kg),
Forward-facing with 5-point harness 80 lbs (36 kg),
Booster mode 120 lbs (54 kg).
• Maximum heights:
Rear-facing 44″ / 112cm,
Front-facing 57″/ 144 cm

We unwrapped everything and quickly took note of everything included and then opened the manual to get started!  Let me start by saying we love this manual.  It’s in depth with detailed pictures and explains things very well. There are seven fabulous color options and we received the “Shadow”. It’s gorgeous in person.  The material is soft, including velvet strap covers and part of the head rest fabric.  Andrew and I both commented how we wish part of our car seat was made from this material.

We also quickly took notice of the clearly printed safety and warning instructions on the Diono. I love that some of the proper seating instructions are printed right on the sides of the seat so that I have a quick reminder of proper positioning when the time comes without always having to bring the manual out.

So let’s get down to what you really want to know…what’s all the hype about this car seat, what are the great features, and what do we love?
First, I just have to mention that we plan on having more children and being able to move seats around easily is a huge plus for me.  The Diono Radian RXT can easily fit 3 side by side and with it’s infant to booster features, you never need anything seat for any babies.
I’m a huge fan of products, especially ones involving the safety of Baby Skibbles, being properly and clearly labeled, so I loved knowing exactly where I needed to put the seat belt.

The Diono Radian RXT feature five different strap positions and three different harness buckle positions. The manual clearly shows how each should be and it was easy to figure out which one was the proper installation for Baby Skibbles.  Removing the straps and replacing them to the correct position for use was an absolute breeze.  We’ve had a few other carseats before and Andrew said that this was by far the easiest to removing and reattach the straps.

I love the the harness adjustment strap is concealed under a padded cushion that said Child Emergency Information (Lift). Diono has an awesome medical info card in case of emergency that you can print off from their website and stick inside of here so that the child’s medical information is always on hand.  The harness strap adjuster was easy to use by simply pushing down and tightening.  It all rolls back up into the seat without any problems with bulking up.

The strap covers are by far the best I’ve seen on any car seat I’ve come into contact with.  Not only do they cover above the chest clip, but they are cover below.  I love this because when messes happen I can just remove the covers and wash rather than figuring out to to clean the actual straps (messes are bound to happen).  The straps are incredibly easy to remove and put back on and like I mentioned above are made from a velvet material, making them insanely soft.

The side impact head support is awesome.  It can adjust to different positions depending on your child’s side which means it provides maximum protection as they grow. The Radian RXT also features two slots for cup holders on both sides of the car seat, meaning you can hold up to four cup holders in one seat at a time!  One cup holder comes with the car seat, but any other additional cup holders are separate.
We are also in love with the adjustable armrests. We know this will come in handy as Baby Skibbles grows more into the seat.
The back of the car seat is full of straps that can get overwhelming if it weren’t for the amazing manual provided with the car seat. Some of the amazing things you will find include:
1. Harness Straps adjustment positioning
2. LATCH straps
3. Shoulder Carry Strap anchors
4. Top Tether
5. Backpack Strap Anchors
6. FAA compliant making air travel safe
7. StopSafe strap
8. Shoulder carry strap

Installation was a breeze.  There is a detachable base that is necessary for rear facing the car seat, but all your have to do is insert and lock into plan.  Then, the manual explains what the best method is for securing the car seat.  It goes in depth with pictures to detail for nine types of installation including multiple forward and rear facing options (LATCH option available), as well as aircraft and booster options.

We used our Buddy Dog to demonstrate the infant support system.  It was easy to install both pieces of the infant support and feed the straps and buckle into each piece.  The chest clip is secure with plenty of room to fit snug and secure. We love how versatile in size this seat can be.  As you can see from the picture in the middle (below) it’s almost like having a car seat inside of a car seat.  There’s just that much room.
One of the most important factors for me was extended rear facing and room to grow.  With the Dinoo Radian RXT we have the ability to do both.  She has so much room left to grow both height and length wise.  We plan to rearface until at least two years old so have the additional leg room was a big deal to me since she is currently at the top of the chart for height according to our pediatrician.  She has plenty to spare as you can see from the picture below.

We also love the compactness of the seat.  Even though it’s a bit on the heavy side there are still 4 amazing ways to carry it including with the shoulder strap, by the red carry strap, by the plastic on it’s side, or like a back pack.  The back pack straps are sold separately which is why I am not demonstrating in the pictures below.
Overall feelings?  We are totally head over heals in love with this car seat.  It’s hands down the best car seat we’ve laid our hands on.  With the superior technology, durability, room for growth, we couldn’t ask for more.  I will admit we were nervous when transitioning her from the infant car seat to the convertible because I was terrified she would no longer sleep because she was sitting straight up, but much to my surprise she actually fell asleep faster! She looks incredibly comfy and relaxed inside her brand new big girl seat!

*car was not moving at the time pictures were taken
We could right a book about how great the Diono Radian RXT car seat is from a safety, security, and comfortability view point, but we can wrap it up in the following points.
Recap of the Amazing Features:

(courtesy of Diono)

  • Full steel frame and aluminum reinforced sides for unmatched safety
  • Comfortably seats rear-facing children from 5-45 lbs, forward-facing children from 20-80 lbs in a 5-point harness, then converts to a booster for children up to 120 lbs.
  • Unique SuperLATCH system that makes installation easy
  • It also fits 3 across in a mid-size vehicle, folds flat for travel and is FAA certified
  • NCAP crash tested, the industry benchmark for verifying child seat performance in severe accident conditions
  • Infant body support cushions and memory foam for added comfort
  • Energy absorbing EPS foam and side impact protection provides added safety
  • Safestop® energy-absorbing harness
  • Additional forward-facing recline position to accommodate different types of contoured vehicle seats, 12-position adjustable headrest, 5 shoulder and 3 buckle positions deliver a comfortable ride.
  • Rear-facing tether capability
  • LATCH installation up to 80 lbs
  • Expandable sides and long seat bottom allow proper leg support
  • Low-sitting profile makes it easy for your child to board
  • Angled cup holder keeps a variety of drinks upright and within easy reach
  • Cover is machine washable and dryable
  • Rubber bottom grips for no-slip installation
  • 10 year life
We highly recommend you can view and test one of the car seats our for yourself.  We promise you won’t be disappointed.
We were also generously sent the Diono Ultra Mat.  It is a full seat protector that not only protects your car upholstery against scratches and dent from the car seat, but can be used rear or forward facing. The non-stick grip are awesome to ensure that the car seat doesn’t slip.  There’s an awesome three-pocket organizer in the front that is great for toys, snacks, and more (I’m always loosing Baby Skibbles shoes so that’s why they are there!). It’s waterproof, washable fabric, and easy to care for.  The best part is that it’s compatible with all infant carriers, car seats, and boosters and it’s also Latch compatible.  The only down side is it has to have a headrest to either buckle or velcro around so if you don’t have that in your vehicle you can’t ensure it will stay.  We absolutely love the Ultra Mat to contain messes and prevent dents in our car seats.  It’s a must have accessory no matter what car seat you have!
The Ultra Mat is just one of a number of different car seat accessories that Diono makes for the Radian RXT. We hope to get them all soon!
We are beyond thrilled to have been given this opportunity to bring you more information about this amazing car seat.  We hope you will check out Diono and see why it’s right for you as well.

She Said Yes: DIY Printable Bridal Shower Games

September 24, 2013 by Larisha Campbell 1 Comment

We’re celebrating a special event in honor of two blogging soon to be brides, Larisha from We’re Parents and Alex from Mommys Craft Obsession! Each day we will be debuting a special new giveaway or post so make sure you check back frequently!

It’s customary for the bridal shower to be planned by the bridal shower or a close friend of the family so that the bride can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the special times in her life. Unfortunately this isn’t the case for some brides such as myself and instead I insist upon helping with the planning because I love it so much. Thankfully I have a fabulous bridal party who knows how much of a control-freak I am and just lets me be apart of the planning!
When my maid of honor asked me what types of games I wanted to play at my shower, it really had me thinking. I wanted to do something fun and interactive yet I wanted to keep my games simple and able to be done as my guest enjoyed eating and talking with everyone. It hit me that I could easily create my own variations of games that I found across the internet by simply designing my own and printing them out!
Creating my bridal shower games was so easy and only took a few minutes to create each one! I loved that I could customize my games down to the very last detail and that my guests would be playing a game that was unique to my special day- not a game that a million others had played before (although it would be a variation).
Follow my simple steps below to create your own bridal shower games! You could even use this tutorial to create other things such as birthday party games, invitations, and so much more!
Step 1: Pull up your browser and visit PicMonkey! PicMonkey is a free photo editing program that can be used by anyone at anytime.

Step 2: From the PicMonkey home page, click “Edit A Photo”, then locate the photo that you will be using as the background for your game. This photo can literally be anything; a cute background, a photo, a solid background…whatever you’d like! Once you have located the image you will be using click on it once, then click “choose”

Step 3: Once you have pulled up your image, click “Overlays” then “Geometric” to pull up the various shapes. This shape will be used as the portion of your game that will contain the text. I always go for the square but you could use whichever shape you’d like.

Step 4: Adjust your shape so that it fills the amount of space on your background that you would like to reserve for text. I covered almost the entire background so that I would have plenty of space to right. You will then need to change the color to white -or another color of your choosing- and then adjust the fade until you reach your desired transparency.

Step 5: Once you have done the steps above, click on the “Basic Edits” function, then click “Resize”.

Step 6: This is the step that may take you a few extra minutes to accomplish because it will require some Googling on your part. When you print out your game you will want to make sure that you have adjusted your game image to the appropriate size for printing. I decided to print my games on 8 1/2 X 11 sheets of cardstock to make it easier for everyone participating to write down their answers. By doing a simple Google search for “8 1/2 X 11 Size in Pixels” I was able to find that I needed to adjust my images size to 2550X3300 so that when I printed everything would be just the right size!

Step 7: Now it’s time to add your text in! This is the heart and soul of the tutorial because its your game! You could do whatever you’d like – “How Well Do YOU Know The Bride?” “Famous Couples Match Up” “Who Said It?”. The possibilities are endless! Decide which game you’re going to start of with and then click on the text icon on PicMonkey, choose your font, click “Add Text”, then get to creating! You can add as many text boxes as you’d like, change up the fonts, the colors, and the sizes! The choice is completely yours.

Step 8: Once you have finished adding in all of your text, it’s time to save your project!! Start by clicking the “Save” button at the top of your webpage.

Once you have clicked “Save” you will be redirected to a second save page where you can then change the title and change it to/from a JPG to/from a PNG. Once you’ve done that, save it to your computer!

When you’re ready to print out your games you can do so in many different manners. You could visit your local craft store or print shop and pick up some high quality paper and print from home or you could take the file to a print shop and have them do it for you!

Check out the games that I created for my bridal shower coming up in January! I can’t wait to see what my guests come up with for their answers!

Baby’s Got Gear: Merino Kids Sleep Sack Review & Giveaway

September 19, 2013 by Larisha Campbell 18 Comments

We are super excited with the winter season coming to let you know about this awesome sleep sack as part of our Baby’s Got Gear event!

About the company: Merino Kids is an award winning textile company from New Zealand that uses 100% natural fibers in their sleepwear for newborns, babies, infants, and toddlers. Founded in 2003, it is now one of the global leaders in using natural fibers for young children. Their mission is to make a difference in the lives of families with young children, to help parents feel good about the choices they make, and know they are getting the safest, functional, innovative, and beautiful products.

I had seen sleep sacks on the market, but never actually used them before.  Ever since Baby Skibbles was about 3 weeks old she would scream at night when we tried to PJs on her so she had since been PJ free at night. However, with the winter months quickly approaching, we decided it was time to try again.

We received the Merino Kids Organic Cotton sleep sack for 0-2 years old. I loved the varied colors and pattern.  It’s very gender neutral which is what I typically buy.  Baby Skibbles is almost 10 months and as you can see there is still a ton of room for her to grow in the sleep sack over the next year or so.

Merino Kids sleep sack is the #1 top-selling merino sleep sack worldwide.  It’s created from Superfine Merino wool, 100% natural, itch-free, and allergy-safe.  There is also an organic cotton layer for extra durability. Because of their design, babies don’t wake up cold, nor do they overheat.  It is naturally designed to absorb and release moisture to create a safe micro-climate.  It’s made so babies have freedom to move but can’t slip underneath or wiggle out.
Two sizes are available 0-2 and 2-4 years old, as well as winter-weight models for cooler temperatures.

Snaps at the top and side allowed for ease getting it on and the zippered closure made diaper changes easy as well.

It also features a patented safety belt aperture that enables your little to wear their sleep sack in the car seat or stroller without removing.

It’s machine washable and naturally fire-resistant (rated low fire risk without chemicals)

BUY IT: The Merino Kids Sleep Sacks start at $129.99, but are currently on sale for $99.99.  To make a purchase you can go HERE.

WIN IT: One lucky reader is going to win their own sleep sack (organic cotton currently unavailable)! Just fill out the form below. This giveaway will end on 10/4/13 at 1:00am EST. Open to US residents only.

Ryobi 3100 psi 2.5 GPM Honda Engine Gas Pressure Washer with Idle Down Review

September 17, 2013 by Larisha Campbell 95 Comments

About the company: Ryobi is one of the world’s largest and most innovative power tool manufacturers, specializing in making pro-featured power tools truly affordable. Millions of contractors, homeowners, and hobbyists make Ryobi the brand of choice for this reason. They offer more than ever before all backed by a 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee and a 3-Year Limited Warranty.  Products are exclusively sold through The Home Depot.

We were generously sent the Ryobi 3100 psi 2.5 GPM Honda Engine Gas Pressure Washer with Idle Down for review.  Now, if you are a mom like me, you have no idea what most of that means; however, when Andrew walked in and saw it he was utterly amazed.  He said that not only is Ryobi is go to brand, but he’s heard amazing things about this being the best pressure washer on the market and was excited to try it out.  Unfortunately, it rained the first few days that we had a chance to use it, so his patience was growing thin.  Luckily, we finally had a chance to and let me tell you it didn’t disappoint at all.

I couldn’t believe how this entire thing fit in one small box, but it did!  All the extra parts and instructions were tucked inside.  I loved that there’s an instruction pamphlet (yellow paper below) that briefly outlines everything and shows if you have questions were to reference in the larger booklet.

We took it out of the box and got everything ready for set up. It’s extremely compact which is great for storage when you are not using it.

There are numerous clearly marked safety warning which I love, not only because I have small children, but because my older child (a.k.a. Andrew) doesn’t always pay attention either.
First, we had to instal the hose rack onto the handlebars of the pressure washer.  I took him just a few minutes to figure out which screws went in each part, but was extremely easy to do. The spray trigger fits perfectly once installed.
Before installing the spray trigger, Andrew had a little fun!

Next came the hose set up.  It was so simple to figure out. We’ve used it a few times now and never had any problems with leaks, kinks, or anything else.  I love that theres a “bungy cord strap” to hold the hose in place when not in use, again for ease while in storage. The hose reaches an amazing 25 feet! The nozzle itself has five different options including: 0 degrees, 25 degrees, 40 degrees, Long-Range Soap, and Short-Range Soap.

The Ryobi Pressure Washer features 12 inches tires that are built to go over a variety of surfaces.  We have very soft ground that is a bit rough right now from the previous homeowners not taking care of the land properly and we never once had a problem no matter where we moved the pressure washer too. It’s also clearly labeled for all the start-up features (better labeling than I’ve ever seen on power equipment).
Remember I said above that I had no idea what all those numbers meant?  Well when Andrew started it up, he showed me.  The 187cc Honda engine can deliver 3100 psi of cleaning force and idle down capability.  In mom-language? This means that this pressure washer can handle the toughest of tough cleaning jobs, whether it’s your driveway, decks, siding, windows, or anything else. The idle down means that its fuel efficient, saying you even more money in the long run.

It features clearly marked soap, gas, and oil containers.  It comes with the oil to start and once that was in we were ready to test it out.  Andrew started it up and I was completely shocked with how quiet it was.  I expected something much louder, but you could barely hear it from around the corner of the house.

It was finally all set up and ready to go…so what were our final thoughts….
It’s hands down amazing.  For the price, quality, ease of use, there simply isn’t something better out on the market.  Our new (to us) home looks amazing and back to it’s original beauty with just a little bit of work from us and a lot of work from this amazing pressure washer.
Andrew even said he hopes it snows a lot this winter so he has another reason to use it.  His final quote, “Once again Ryobi didn’t disappoint!”
It’s so easy I was even able to use it while babywearing a sleeping Baby Skibbles!
Quick Features List:

Baby’s Got GearL i’coo Doll Accessories Giveaweay

September 17, 2013 by Larisha Campbell 4 Comments

Our babies grow up so quickly, the early days may be a little stressful as you adjust to the addition of a family member ,but before you know it; that baby is toddling around and looking for great toys. Keeping a toddler entertained may be even more stressful, but when you stumble upon a great toy; everyone’s life gets a little bit easier!
Our Sweet Pea is almost 13 months old and not yet walking on her own yet, although she seems to be getting closer everyday. So , when I was given the chance to try out the new Doll accessories line by i’coo; I wasn’t sure how much use my Sweet Pea would get from it right away, but I knew it would be a great toy to grow with her in the months & years to come.
When our accessories arrived I couldn’t wait to get them out of the box and try them out with my little girl. I remember just loving to play babies when I was young and was so thrilled to be able to share this experience with Sweet Pea. I was excited to see that the assembly was going to be very easy! In just a few minutes the stroller was put together as well as a highchair for my girls babies.  I also couldn’t get over just how high quality the items were, even Hubs commented on it when he got home from work that day. He said “whoa! That’s a play stroller? This thing is awesome!” , Hubs is your typical guy & he doesn’t really get too excited over kids toys…especially when it comes to “girlier” toys; so the level of his excitement over this toy made me even more impressed.
For the first week of owning the i’coo doll accessory line Sweet Pea played with the highchair and baby carrier A LOT, while our Lil Stinker played with the stroller. He is 2 1/2 and adores pushing stuff around, he thinks the stroller is awesome!! I do often find him pushing an apple or a measuring tape around instead of a baby…
After a week of having the stroller Sweet Pea got a little more brave and decided to give pushing the stroller a try. I love that the handle has three height adjustments so that she is able to reach to push. She LOVES it and watching her little girly self pushing her babies through the house is the most precious thing! She squeals with excitement as she toddles through the house and I know that due to the quality of these items she will be enjoying them for years to come.
I love the versatility of these items. For now, we leave the big attachment on the stroller and the small seat on the high chair or off as a carrier. However, as Sweet Pea grows and wants to play “mommy” she can put the big attachment onto the highchair stand to use as a bassinet and the highchair seat can become a car seat. The possibilities with this toy are many, making it very much worth it’s ticket price of of $99.99. To purchase, go HERE.
One of you will win your own i’coo grow with me set, please fill out the entry form below for your chance to win. This giveaway will remain open until Tuesday 10/1, Good Luck!

They are the creators of the Electronic Learning Products, as well as the award-winning InnoTab, MobiGo, and V.Reader handheld toys. Cody the Smart Cub™ is VTech’s Newest introduction to their infant and preschool line.  He introduces children to valuable every-day life skills like routines, first words, and emotions.  He knows exactly what time is it, so your little ones will grow and learn morning greetings, bedtime music, holidays, and birthday wishes. He’s recommended for ages 6-36 months.

I’ve seen a lot of interactive learning plush animals on the market since my niece was born seven years ago.  They are all pretty much the same in that they teach numbers, abc’s, some body parts, etc.  Luckily, Cody the Smart Cub is hands down the best one I’ve seen, simply because he is so much more than that. To start, he’s super soft unlike all the others! But more importantly, he’s the best interactive learning companion out there.

You can touch his heart and it lights up and makes heartbeat noises. His tummy will play daily messages. Touch his hand he will ask you to high five. Touch his toes and he will giggle. But the fun and learning doesn’t stop there.

So how is he different?  Cody familiarizes himself with your child’s routine.  He learns when it’s time to say good morning and when it’s nighttime he plays lullabies. He can recognize holidays, birthdays, and will do personalized messages. Honestly, I was a little shocked when we turned him on and I was going through the different features and he said “It’s 2 months until Halloween”. I love that she’s going to learn interactively about different things with him. Through the VTech Learning Lodge you can customize Cody with your child’s name, birthday, and more, download up to 20 of their favorite stories, and 30 unique lullabies. The USB cord is included with the box for you to do all of these amazing things.  It was super easy to set up and I love being able to add things to make him more unique and personalized to what our daughter loves.

There are a ton of developmental benefits including tactile stimulation, cause and effect, language development, and discovery and exploration. Teaching daily life, feelings, time concepts, and body parts, Cody the Smart Cub is incredible.

Baby Skibbles absolutely loves Cody the Smart Cub.  She played with him in the box for an incredibly long time and now anytime that she’s upset and you pull her out, she instantly gets a smile on her face.  We are so lucky to have him!

Kidsme Food Feeder Review & Giveaway

About the company: Kidsme has grown since 1989, but their mission has always stayed the same. Using their children to inspire and motivate them, they create innovative, fun, easy-to-use products.  Their products encourage special moments between parents and children to Discover, learn, and play together. The founder of Kidsme needed a solution to allowing his child to proactively self-feed with worrying about choking. He created the Kidsme Food Feeder from that experience!

No matter how you feed your child, you have probably started out worrying that they are going to choke. For us, especially doing baby-led weaning, I was completely trusting in her ability to self-feed, but some things were just harder for her to grasp in the beginning.  I wish I knew then about the Kidsme self feeder.  It’s absolutely wonderful.  Now that baby Skibbles is 9 months, I was a bit concerned about how I was going to review this because we haven’t used a feeder like this in a few months.  Luckily, one night, she was super fussy and both Andrew and I knew it was her teeth.  He saw the food feeder laying on the counter and suggested that we put some ice inside to help with teething.  So we did.  And the next hour was amazing.  She literally sat on the floor or crawled around with it in her mouth for the next hour!  I was literally shocked.  She would even get mad if I grabbed it to put more ice inside! Not only that, but we put some frozen fruit inside and she ate that right up too!  It’s been awesome for teething more than any other teether we have.

I love that there is a cap on this feeder.  Not only does it make sure the cap and what’s inside stay clean during travel, but the cap can actually double as a small cup.  Perfect for her little hands.

There’s also a secure snap lock that is extremely easy for me to use, but stays locked every time she has tried to open it.  I’m really impressed with the sac being removable as well. It’s made cleaning a breeze!

Skibbles has really enjoyed her Kidsme Food Feeder!

The picture below explains a few more of the awesome features and why it’s just an amazing food feeder (better than the ones you have probably seen on the market)!  We loves ours and hope you do too!

Grain Free Pancakes: Perfect for Baby

August 30, 2013 by Larisha Campbell 43 Comments

We have been doing Baby-Led Weaning ever since Baby Skibbles was ready to eat solid foods (6 months is the recommended age according to the AAp, WHO, & CDC). because we had done out research we knew there were some things she shouldn’t have and things she should be limited to having. One of those being grains.  The problem is, this mama right here loves carbs and I wanted some pancakes.  I remember someone telling me to mash a banana and add eggs but I thought they were crazy; however, desperate times call for desperate measures, so I decided to give it a shot!
Start by mushing completely one whole banana.  Next, add in two eggs with yolks and beat them with the banana until you have a liquid-y batter. Finally, add a teaspoon of cinnamon into the batter.
Next drop spoonfuls onto a greased (we use coconut oil) skillet.  When I say spoonfuls, think small Micky Mouse pancakes or silver dollar pancakes as I’ve seen them called.  There is nothing really binding these together so they are much harder to flip than a normal pancakes. About 2 minutes on each side.
Cut them up and serve!  That’s it! Baby Skibbles loved every minute of it! I must admit I ate them too and they are really sweet, but amazingly yummy!  Give it a try!

 Leave us a comment!
What’s yours or your child(ren)’s favorite breakfast?

Balance Bar mini energy bars & Itzy Ritzy Back 2 School Review & Giveaway

August 22, 2013 by Larisha Campbell 23 Comments

About the companies:
–Balance Bar was founded in 1992 as one of the originators of energy bars by a group of sports enthusiasts, scientists, and others in Santa Barbara, CA.  Over the last 20+ years they have added several flavors, styles, and formats of energy bars to make nutrition easy and delicious for everyone.  Their original purpose remains the same: to help create balance.

-Itzy Ritzy believes that parenting in style is possible.  Their line of modern, multi-purpose products provide solutions to everyday challenges. They believe their job is done when YOU get your job done in a stylish, exciting, and refreshingly simple way.

While I don’t have any school age children, I know how hard packing lunches can be since I do it for Andrew every day.  Packing for children is even harder though.  You want to make sure you are providing nutrition and variety at the same time.  Balance Bar and Itzy Ritzy are here to help! With an astounding 79% of parents packing their children’s lunches, I’m sure you would love the help too!

Balance Bar is celebrating the new school year with their brand new product Balance Bar mini energy bars and partnered with Macaroni Kid to survey parents and come up with some amazing tips!  So as back to school season is getting ready to or has just begun for you here’s a few of them:
-Do a run through to get your kids prepared for their new school routine.
-Plan a menu and let your kid pick a few of the options they would like to see in their lunchbox (Balance Bar mini energy bars are a great snack!)
-Clean out their closets!  Nothing gets you more ready for smooth mornings like a little organization
-Start them on a good sleep routine early to get prepared for waking up earlier
-Set goals to help keep them motivated for the new school year

Like I said, Balance Bar has a brand new product out and I must say it’s incredibly yummy.  Balance Bar mini energy bars come in double chocolate brownie and cookie dough flavors and are just 100 calories per bar! Balanced nutrition, high energy food, and convenient on the go food make this the perfect snack for those lunch boxes. Andrew was really impressed by the flavor of these and asked after the first day for me to keep putting them inside.  He said it’s the perfect snack for when he’s in a crunch with time, but knows that he needs to grab something quick.

Itzy Ritzy sent their Snack Happened(TM) Reusable Snack Bag.  Before I knew about reusable bags, we went through so many disposable ones and I always felt so bad.  Luckily, Itzy Ritzy makes an amazing bag.  It’s thicker and seems more durable than others I have tried in the past.  It’s bright and fun colored but stylish at the same time.  Great for keeping crackers, fruit, sandwiches, and even Balance Bar mini energy bars too! They are even machine washable to cleaning -and reusing- is easy.

Features include:
-100% cotton exterior
-Waterproof lining interior
-FDA-approved, BPA-free, PVC-free, phthalate-free
-Lead-free zipper top closure
-Machine washable
-Award winning
Don’t have a snack to pack?  Don’t worry.  Itzy Ritzy bags are great for crayons, pacifiers, makeup, cameras, and so much more.

MommyCon Philly: An Amazing Experience

August 13, 2013 by Larisha Campbell 2 Comments

Have you been contemplating “Should I go to MommyCon”? Well, question no more! The answer is absolutely, positively, 100% YES! I could write a book on the amazing time I had at MommyCon Philly this weekend, but I’ll try to keep it short(ish).
It was my first “mommy conference” and it blew my mind.  It was incredible.  I met up with old friends, made new ones, and conversed with people before I had only knew in the “cyber world”.
I learned, I laughed, I cried.  And I’m ready to do it all over again.

Baby Skibbles & I at the entrance of the event

Saturday was “VIP” day and I was so lucky to attend the Birth Without Fear breakfast hosted by Nuroo and Earth Mama Angel Baby.  Baby Skibbles and I went with our real life blogger friend Miranda and Baby2.0 from Princess Among Superheroes.  I got there expecting to have brunch and listen to January, founder of Birth Without Fear, speak.  What I got was so much more impactful than I realized.  January didn’t get up and speak.  Instead, she came over, sat down, and listened to each of us.  It was amazing.  She held my daughter, we took selfies, and it was just an incredible time (more than I could have asked for). I was disappointed all the other VIP events were sold out before I could snag tickets, but I will be stalking the page if they decide to come back next year for these VIP options.

Baby Skibbles, January (Birth Without Fear) and I during the VIP Breakfast

Sunday was the big day.  We got to the hotel and luckily skipped the long line since we had gotten out bracelets the day before.  It was packed!!  Over 400 people were there!  Vendors, and brands, giveaways galore.  It was sensory overload for both Baby Skibbles & I. There was a nursing lounge, diaper changing room, babywearing lounge, cloth diapering resource area and more. The vendors were amazing.  There were cloth diaper stores,  placenta encapsulation services, organic beauty products, essential oils, and so much more.  Like I said, I could write a book!

Alyssa from The Mommy Dialogues doing a Babywearing 101 seminar

And EVERYWHERE you went, you saw babywearing, and fluffy butts, and breastfeeding. Moms, breastfeeding their newborns, and infants, and TODDLERS in public without fear that someone was going to say something.  All smiling at each other because, FINALLY, we were at an event that OUR views were the majority.

January, Birth Without Fear, speaking (and Baby Skibbles)

January from Birth Without Fear and Jessica from The Leaky B@@B were the two featured speakers.  Both made me laugh.  And both made me cry. It was amazing, powerful, and I sat intently in the front row and on the floor at the front and listened.  Taking in every.single.word that these two icons in the  breastfeeding world have become.  And I learned.  About supporting each other and defending my rights and that even I need to continue nursing in public to normalize this beautiful gift we’ve been given.  More to come on these speakers in another post!

Jessica, The Leaky B@@B, speaking.

There was a lunch break and some friends and I met up and had lunch at an awesome little place called Cosi.  The food was so yummy.  I had a chicken, tomato, basil, and mozzarella sandwich with raspberry lemonade and chicken tortilla soup!

I even won a prize!! Jamie Grayson “The Baby Guy NYC” was there to give out all the prizes! I won an adorable outfit and towel from Kushies! Of course I did a photo opp with him afterwards!

My Prize I won from Kushies along with my MommyCon Swag Bag

Lastly, I was so excited to get a shot with Xza, founder of The Mommy Dialogues and the reason this is all happening.  I still don’t know which amazing lady from The Mommy Dialogues commented on my post on the PregBuzz app over a year ago, letting me know about their awesome site, but I’m forever grateful they did and for Xza making this all possible.

I’ve already heard they are planning to come back to Philly next year and it’s slated to be 3 TIMES BIGGER!  Until then…I’m planning on how to make it to another one!  If MommyCon is coming near you and you have been debating.  Just stop.  Go buy your ticket, NOW!

**Individual posts will come later this week about how the MommyCon speakers touched me.  Check back in!
